Welcome to the Lily of the Cahaba Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

We are based in Hoover, Alabama with over 100 members from the surrounding communities of Jefferson and Shelby counties, as well as other outlying counties.  Membership includes Juniors (age 18-35), mothers and daughters, sisters, grandmothers, and many friends. We meet at 2:00 PM on the second Saturday of each month from September through May in Hoover. Guests are always welcomed.

We provide individual help for anyone who is interested in tracing a descendent from a patriot in the American Revolution. An annual workshop is also usually held once a year in July or August. Please contact our Registrar,
Shelby Bailey, for more information about researching your lineage and joining our chapter.

We have committees that are very active in overseeing our activities with historic preservation, patriotism, and education. Just a few examples of the activities we participate in are listed below. Each member is encouraged to join in the activity of her choice.
  • We participate and attend various military and veterans' events.
  • Our ladies provide admissions baskets for the Veterans Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Many of us participate in a reading program for the schools and donate children's books.
  • We support a classroom at the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in Grant, Alabama, and often visit our classroom, interacting with the students with a program and/or crafts.
  • We participate in the wreath laying ceremony on Memorial Day at the American Village; place roses to honor the fallen soldiers within the past year.
  • We participate in the country's oldest and largest Veteran's Parade in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Our chapter recognizes Native American Heritage Month by presenting a Proclamation to the Hoover Mayor.
  • Many of our ladies support the active military with our volunteer hours, telephone card donations, homemade goodies and crafts, and many other ways. We crocheted and knitted caps to insert in their helmets, we donated holiday cards for them to use to mail to their loved ones, and we crocheted baby blankets for the wives of military.

We have guest speakers at each meeting who cover a variety of topics, including women's issues, literacy, genealogy, Native American history, education, history of the U. S. Flag, military and veterans topics, and many more. Check our Programs link to find a topic that interest you and come visit us.

Please explore our website and contact us if you have questions or need additional information.
